The City of Charlottesville Parks and Grounds Division invites you to give back to the Charlottesville community by becoming involved in area flower gardens and parks. Whether with a financial contribution or the gift of your time and energy as a volunteer in the gardens and parks, your help is invaluable in keeping Charlottesville a beautiful community in which to live, work and play. We offer the following programs:
Gifts for the Gardens
Some of the plant material displayed throughout
the city is grown in the greenhouse located on Pen Park Road. The Division designs, plants,
and maintains most of the plant material citizens enjoy in our parks,
schoolyards and right-of-ways. A tax-deductible contribution will go toward
purchasing plant material, and supplies. and will provide an opportunity for the residents of
Charlottesville to play an integral part in the seasonal floral
displays throughout Charlottesville.
Those who
would like to make a contribution, please make your checks payable to
City of Charlottesville and mail to:

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are needed for many special one-time
projects, as well as on a continual basis throughout the city. The Parks
Division has over 700 volunteers a year, helping to weed, plant, mulch, paint
and maintain our beautiful parks, schools and right-of-ways. Please
contact Ann Majewski at (804) 970-3585 for more information, or email her at:

Volunteers in the
Gardens
We are always looking for volunteers to help maintain the City's
gardens. All those who wish to volunteer to work on a one time gardening project
or to work on an ongoing basis
need to contact Ann

Experienced gardeners and beginners are invited to help keep Charlottesville's flower gardens beautiful. All can share their knowledge and skills. Whether you are young, a senior citizen, or a city or county resident, you can be helpful. All tools and supplies are furnished. You will never be asked to apply pesticides or any chemicals. You set your own hours and amount of time that you are willing to contribute. Help is needed to plant and maintain more than 60 pots of annuals on the Downtown Mall; to plant and care for the flowerbeds in and around City Hall; the greenhouse at Pen Park; and in both Lee Park and Jackson Park. Tax dollars alone can no longer keep the city's parks beautiful. This is your chance to give back to the community and become involved in your area's flower gardens. Please consider giving a helping hand.
Adopt A Park Program
The Charlottesville Parks Division invites all interested
groups, clubs, or individuals to join in a unique partnership called
Adopt a Park. You might paint a playground, take care of trees,
shrubs, and flowers, or even help design and plant a new flowerbed.
Groups can work together or alone, and do as much or as little as
they choose. Whether it's a year-long project, a monthly morning
spent weeding and watering, or a twice-yearly clean-up, the Adopt a
Park program can be tailored to fit your needs. This is your chance
to give back to the community, learn something new and have fun along
the way. For information call: 804-970-3585 or send e-mail to majewski@charlottesville.org
Adopt A Spot
Program
Charlottesville Parks Division is pleased to announce a
new program for city residents. Adopt a Spot is designed to encourage
city residents to help create and maintain special places within
their community. Perhaps a wooded border or grassy spot in your
neighborhood needs a little extra help to stay beautiful. Any spot
that is suitable for landscaping within a park, right-of-way or
school ground can be chosen; Parks Division is happy to provide
tools, advice and assistance. We welcome all individuals and groups
who want to make Charlottesville a more beautiful city to join
us..... Adopt a Spot! Call Ann Majewski, (804) 970-3585 or email: majewski@charlottesville.org.
Tree Stewardship
Program
In 1996 the Parks Division, City of Charlottesville,
introduced a new program to the community called Tree Stewards. The
program has three components; Funds for the Forest, Blooming
Boulevards and Trees as Teachers. Blooming Boulevards is an
opportunity for neighborhood associations, individuals and civic
groups to learn how to plant, prune and care for trees on City
property. With a little help from us, our city trees can stay green
and healthy as they grow. Students can play in the shade of a tree they have
helped plant and care for. Finally, Funds for the Forest is a way for
citizens to contribute money to purchase trees for parks,
right-of-ways and school grounds. To find out more about becoming a
tree steward, call (804) 970-3585 or email: majewski@charlottesville.org.
